2006 Sasquatch Music Festival
After a blazing 90+ degree one day event in 2005, the 2006 Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge, was far from being the same old thing. Not only did the Sasquatch Festival span 3 days this time, but the weather decided to be a bit different as well. In fact, I think the hail-storm received the most media attention over the weekend. So let's talk about all the great bands that performed for all the Sasquatch fans that braved the elements.
Walking in on Friday, it was difficult to pass the side stage as the Trucks were keeping the crowd entertained. However, at some point you did have to make your way to the main stage to catch TV On The Radio, Bauhaus, and other great bands. The night was capped off with an outstanding show by Nine Inch Nails.
Then came Saturday, the first full day of non-stop music. Well almost non-stop. That's where the hailstorm comes in... (for more info on that check out any other article out there about the Sasquatch Festival) For the most part this grouping of bands, Rogue Wave, Band of Horses, Gomez, Iron & Wine, and others, were more laid back compared to the Nine Inch Nails show the previous evening. Not saying it wasn't good, just more mellow. Maybe that's why it felt like Ben Harper played way too long. If you stuck it out your were rewarded with another great closing performance by The Flaming Lips. Let's just say that dueling Santas and Aliens is always interesting.
Knowing Sunday's line up made getting out of the tent a bit easier. Deciding which stage to be at was the difficult part. Was it the Yeti stage to catch Big Japan or The Village Green. The Wookie stage to see We Are Scientists or Clap your Hands Say Yeah. While the main stage had Arctic Monkeys, Nada Surf, Matisyahu, Queens of the Stone Age, and Death Cab For Cutie. Back and forth between shows was the answer and turned out to be a great day of music. Ending the night and the Sasquatch Festival was Beck. If only he would have played a little longer...
All in all the 2006 Sasquatch Festival has an experience to remember. Great music, wild weather, and new friends. Now if I would have picked up a Sasquatch Festival t-shirt on the first day I would have had a souvenir to remember. Can you believe they sold out of all the cool hoodies and shirts that quick. Well being a shop full of Sasquatch t-shirts, the crew here at bigfootsurplus.com doesn't feel too left out. Maybe they will let us design the t-shirts for next year and we'll bring enough for all the Sasquatch fans!
